Hendrick Motorsports Penalized After Richmond

Hendrick Motorsports was penalized a second time in the 2023 season. This time, only drivers Alex Bowman and William Byron were penalized after their cars were inspected at the R&D center.

The No.24 and 48 teams were docked 60 points, fined $75,000, and the team's crew chiefs will be penalized for two weeks after this weekends race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Both Hendrick cars were found to have a greenhouse violation.

In the NASCAR rulebook, it states, "The greenhouse may be modified to accommodate a windshield wiper motor where required; these modifications will be permitted for all racetracks."

With this penalty, Alex Bowman has dropped to seventh in the NASCAR Cup Series driver standings, and William Byron now sits fourteenth.

The reason each crew chief suspension will go into effect after Sunday's race at Bristol is because the penalty came out late in the week, and the two teams would be on short notice to find another fill in crew chief.

Hendrick Motorsports will not be saying anything on this penalty until next week.
