Chase Briscoe hit with Massive L3 Penalty

NASCAR issued a massive penalty to the No. 14 team Wednesday afternoon. The penalty was one of the largest in NASCAR history.

Chase Briscoe was docked 120 driver points and 25 driver points. Crew Chief John Klausmeier of the No. 14 team will be suspended for the next 6 championship points events and is fined $250,000.

Elton Sawyer, NASCAR's senior vice president states that the team was penalized for having a counterfeit engine duct.

Stewart-Haas Racing announces that they understand NASCAR's decision to enforce the penalty, and will not be making an appeal.

“We had a quality control lapse and a part that never should’ve been on a car going to the racetrack ended up on the No. 14 car at Charlotte,” said Greg Zipadelli in a statement from the team. “We accept NASCAR’s decision and will not appeal.” said Greg Zipadelli apart of Stewart-Haas Racing.

Chase Briscoe now sits 31st in the driver standings, before the penalty Briscoe was one spot out of a playoff spot in 17th. This most likely means that Briscoe will need to win a race to find himself as a part of the 2023 NASCAR playoffs.
